Our Dexter herd and selected native British shorthorn breeds are reared at Crowtree House Farm, Spalding Marsh, Lincolnshire, with nothing added but our husbandry and tlc to produce, nutritious, tender marbled beef.
The provenance of your meat, exactly where it comes from, how it has been fed and how it has been treated is assured.
Calves from our Dexter herd are born at Crowtree House farm, suckle milk fed by their mother for at least six months, then they and our bought in calves that are carefully selected from native British shorthorn breeds, thrive on the best Lincolnshire fenland marsh grass for at least another 14 months before being humanely slaughtered just a few miles away at A Wrights & Son in Boston. Journey time is kept to a minimum to avoid unnecessary stress.
The carcasses are hung at our cold store for 2 to 3 weeks to enable the beef to gently mature before being butchered for your plate, our own farm shop and award winning restaurant.
Our raison d’etre is to produce a quality natural product from traditional British shorthorn breeds renowned for their tasty marbled meat.
By caring for the animals, spending time every day with them, providing them with quality grazing supplemented in the winter with hay, sileage, vegetable and crushed corn.
Comfortable and spacious winter housing for our cattle ensure that they enjoy a natural year round environment and free of stress.
